Green Lantern Review

3/5 Stars

green-lantern-poster“This movie is somewhat of an ode to fan-boys, you may get lost at times if you do not know your Lantern backstory. For non-lantern or comic genre fans this movie will most likely fall short.”

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before…more

Trailer Preview: Immortals

A man chosen by the gods will unite us…. whatever, What looks like it might have had a chance at being a cool movie this teaser trailer looks strangely unfinished in parts.

It’s from the producers of 300 and is due out 11-11-11 so there is plenty of time to clean it up so we are going to give it the benefit of the doubt for now.

Plot: The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion and his murderous Heraklion army are rampaging across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission. As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named Theseus vows to avenge the death of his mother in one of Hyperion’s raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra, her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her that he is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final desperate battle for the future of humanity.

Now, the two of them are hot on the trail of the charismatic Jonah King and his murderous followers. King will throw every one of them faithful under the wheels of Milton’s turbo-charged Black ’71 Challenger, to fulfill his destiny and unleash hell on earth.

EN Review: In a word… Awesome.  Drive Angry is destined to be a cult classic. This movie only exists to show some kick ass action, big over the top car chases, shoot ‘em ups, cars that are as beautiful as the women in this movie, the aforementioned beautiful naked women, and a gun that is so cool its designer got his very own credit. It does that to perfection and showcases what 3D can be when executed correctly.

What surprises the most in this movie though, is how perfect the cast is. These parts appear to be written specifically with these actors in mind. The script is not great, typical grindhouse stuff, but Nic Cage deadpans his way to a fantastic performance, Amber Heard is sexy as hell, Billy Burke embodies evil as the bad guy and William Fitchner absolutely steals every scene he is in with abandon. amber-heard-in-drive-angry
In case you though we were kidding about how hot Amber Heard is in this movie.

If you are looking to have fun at the movies, not sit through an Oscar performance, go see Drive Angry in 3D. It’s not for everyone, and definitely not for anyone under 18, but if like me you are a Grindhouse fan, you will love this movie.

EN 5 Second Review: ** of *****

I am not sure if I am seeing a video game or a movie, and there is no subtlety here at all. I feel kind of like I am trapped in some kind of spaghetti western martial arts circus comedy drama mystical movie and it makes my head spin.
